I love Super Simple Songs. They're fun, they have good quality videos, and I can listen to them over and over without going crazy. To make it even better, they have a bunch of free materials on their website.
For all lessons, even "fun" lessons, I try to follow the three P's.
PRESENTATION, PRACTICE, PRODUCTION.
If Ss don't know the vocabulary or topic, they can't practice it.
If Ss can't practice the vocabulary or topic, they can't produce it confidently.
If Ss aren't producing it themselves, they haven't confidently learned the topic.
When I write lesson plans, I try to work backwards.
Is this a one off lesson or scaffolding into other lessons?
What do I want them to be able to do/say/understand by the end?
What is a good example that they can do/say/understand the topic?
What vocabulary do they need? What grammar?
Is there external media or materials that I can use?
What games or activities are suitable for their age/skill level?
Once I have the basics down, I need to consider my long term plans for the class. Are they working on writing? Are they working on addition? Are they working on speaking confidently? Then I need to figure out if there is a way I can add that into this lesson to help them improve the needed skills.
This lesson is based on introducing or re-introducing Halloween vocabulary. The grammar is "Go away scary ..."The main goal is building confidence and writing skills. A secondary goal is phonics skill.
The lesson plan can be found here.
